Exploring

There is something about going somewhere I've never set eyes on before and finding out what is there to be seen. Following footpaths that seem to never end, coming to a fork in a road and making a whimsical decision on which path to take. I can be by myself for hours in my own mind, curiously finding out what might be hidden. The thought that I may be the only person to lay eyes on a particular sight or view for years, or even ever.

When pondering on what I particularly pay attention to while out exploring, I realised that I focus on nature in a somewhat spiritual way. The exercise and fresh air awaken my mind, with the beauty of the natural world allowed to be itself without a human's touch warms me. I feel connected with the environment and its vastness, often reminding me of a single person's insignificance in what we know to be the universe.

If and where possible, I try to follow water. It moves with a kind of purpose and follows the easiest path, obstructed or not. The sounds of water running down a stream can be peaceful and meditative of the mind. I'll often wonder how the path I am on has changes over the relatively large amount of years, who else has walked there. What might be under the ground I stand on. There is an unexplainable mystery which appears while exploring a place in nature alone. And it is important to note to myself that it is nature that seems to be appearing as a theme out of this, along with contemplation.

I will also add exploring historical landmarks and locations. Along with my passion for history, these two simply go hand in hand. Maybe exploration of history could even be a good start.
